- Seal wood with sealer. Lay the fabric,
right side up, on a glass surface or palette paper and generously
coat with sealer. The sealer should penetrate the fabric. if it does
not, let the right side dry and coat the wrong side also. When it
has begun to dry, the fabric must be lifted to prevent it from
sticking to the surface.
- Let the wood and the fabric dry.
- If the fabric must be cut-out paper
doll fashion, transfer the outline on the fabric with transfer paper
and cut it out. It is helpful to allow a little extra fabric where
the fabric touches the cut edges of the wood and trim this later. transfer
enough of the pattern on the wood for fabric placement. Re-coat the
sealed wood with sealer, generously, and apply the fabric
immediately over the wet sealer. Using your hands or a rubber
roller, push the fabric and smooth out all the bubbles. Let dry.
Trim any excess fabric by turning the wood over and using an X-acto
or utility knife.
- Proceed as above for pelt boards,
etc.; except cover the entire board and trim the entire outline when
dry.
- Continue as if the fabric areas have
been base coated. Transfer the details and paint. Finish with
several coats of polyurethane varnish when all of the painting is
thoroughly dry.
